Energy Webinar Series

In this series, you'll learn from SRC energy and energy transition experts who will share key learnings from their research and experience in helping organizations choose and implement emissions reduction technologies and customized microgrids, to help companies achieve greater efficiencies in their operations.

This series was co-hosted by CIM Magazine.

Redefining Decarbonization Beyond Energy Optimization

This webinar covers how the mining industry can decarbonize operations throughout the mining cycle. SRC experts provided valuable knowledge about the leading-edge approaches and best practices for addressing greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation. This webinar also demonstrates how SRC’s Centre for the Demonstration of Emissions Reductions (CeDER) platform can support advancing the mining industry's approach to GHG mitigation.

How SRC Can Help You Mitigate Emissions

The mining industry has made significant progress in recent years towards decarbonization of mining operations. Initiatives aimed at reducing GHG emissions in the industry have primarily been focused on energy efficiency and low-carbon energy sources. With increased focus on sustainability and changing regulations globally in the industry, GHG emissions reduction through more direct mitigation routes—such as capture, conversion, utilization and storage—are becoming increasingly important.

Hybrid Energy System in Action at a Remote Remediation Site

SRC and CIM Magazine co-hosted a webinar focused on the development and implementation of a hybrid energy system that was installed by SRC at the former Gunnar mine and mill site, a remediation site managed by SRC that is near Uranium City, Sask.

The system improved generator efficiency while reducing runtime by adding battery energy storage. Fuel consumption was further reduced by incorporating renewable generation sources.

This hybrid energy system was installed in 2015 and operated and was tested through a variety of conditions and modes over the past ten years. This demonstration unit was decommissioned in 2025 as the remediation work at the site is in its final stages.

During this webinar, design decisions, operational data and efficiency results were be presented. Lessons learned over the course of the design, installation and operation were also shared. Additional microgrid systems that have been developed since the Gunnar hybrid energy system are also covered.
