On May 31st, 2018, Elizaveta Petelina (Environmental Remediation Specialist, Environmental Remediation) received the Saskatoon YWCA’s Women of Distinction Award in the Research and Technology category. Liza’s work has influenced positive change and she is a role model in her career and community involvement.
At SRC, Liza uses her skills to assist with Project CLEANS, an extensive project for the assessment and remediation of abandoned uranium mine sites in northern Saskatchewan. Her work focuses on providing technical expertise such as site assessment, remediation implementation, environmental monitoring and ecosystem recovery. In addition, Liza has worked with northern Elders, leaders and youth to develop a revegetation program to restore the former mine sites to a more natural state.
