Saskatoon, SK – The Saskatchewan Research Council’s (SRC) GenServe LaboratoriesTM, an industry leader in livestock and crop testing, was granted its ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation today.
ISO/IEC 17025 is the quality standard recognized globally for testing and calibration laboratories. Laboratory accreditation is awarded according to criteria and procedures specifically developed to determine technical competence. GenServe’s accreditation assures customers that the testing services at the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan laboratory are accurate, reliable and will meet domestic, as well as international industry and governmental, consensus standards.
“SRC has become a nationwide leader in research, development and demonstration (RD&D),” said the Honourable Bill Boyd, Minister of the Economy and Minister Responsible for SRC. “This accreditation is a clear indication of SRC’s growing capabilities and demonstrates its ability to meet world class standards in its RD&D efforts.”
SRC’s GenServe LaboratoriesTM has always striven to offer the highest possible standards in terms of quality and now, following a recent trend toward more stringent regulations within the livestock and grain industries, those standards have been recognized at the highest possible level. This accreditation is specific to GenServe’s flax and wheat midge testing services, but GenServe offers this same level of quality on all their services, ensuring clients receive the highest quality testing services available to industry.
“We are immensely proud to have achieved this milestone,” said Dr. Laurier Schramm, President and CEO of SRC. “Successful accreditation makes a powerful statement to our clients and the agriculture industry that our testing services are aligned with the very best anywhere in the world.”
This milestone follows successful ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation of SRC Geoanalytical Laboratories and SRC’s GenServe LaboratoriesTM - Crop Evaluation Lab through the Standards Council of Canada in 2005 and early 2012, respectively, and SRC Environmental Analytical Laboratories in 1993 through the Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation.
For 25 years, SRC’s GenServe Laboratories TM has delivered commercial testing services to the Canadian agriculture industry and has enabled the sustainable development of agriculture through the application of genomic sciences. GenServe currently offers a broad portfolio of commercial DNA tests to the livestock and crop sectors.
