Gunnar Mine Options Workshops - May/June 2010

SRC will be holding three community meetings to discuss the rehabilitation options for the Gunnar Mine Site. All interested community members are invited to attend to participate in the discussions and learn about the proposed options. Two meetings will be held at each location to accommodate residents.

Meeting Dates and Locations:

Monday, May 31, 2010 (1:00 PM & 7:00 PM) – Stony Rapids, Community Town Hall (includes Black Lake residents)
Tuesday, June 1, 2010 (1:00 PM & 7:00 PM) – Fond-du-Lac, Local Band Hall
Wednesday, June 2, 2010 (1:00 PM & 7:00 PM) – Uranium City, Ben McIntyre School Gym

SHIFT Program: Key Dates Added to the Federal ecoEnergy Program Applications

The Solar Heating Initiative for Today (SHIFT) is available to help large energy consumers harness solar energy to heat water and indoor air for use in their facilities.

Applications for this initiative will be made jointly with the federal ecoENERGY for Renewable Heat initiative, administered by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).

Project CLEANS Public Meeting

On April 29, 2010 at the Ben McIntyre School Gym in Uranium City, all interested community members are invited to attend a public meeting to discuss the progress of CLEANS (Cleanup of Abandoned Northern Sites) and learn about the remediation options for the 2010 work season.

Province Provides Funding Boost for SRC Wind Power Project

The Government of Saskatchewan is providing Go Green funding for a multi-year agreement with the Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) to develop and demonstrate new wind energy storage technology.

The project will harness wind energy at heights in the range of 70 to 90 metres above ground. The potential benefits of high-level wind combined with the ability to store the energy and use it during low wind situations may significantly increase Saskatchewan's capacity to use wind resources.

Aboriginal Housing Demonstration Project

A family from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band will be introduced to their new home that has energy efficient and durability improvements incorporated into the build.

This project is the result of a partnership between the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) Prairie Region, CORCAN, the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, Indian & Northern Affairs Canada, the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, the Saskatchewan Research Council, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Prince Albert Grand Council, the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology, the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, and the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission.
