Grassland and Forest Ecology

Share |   Print

SRC Environment's Grassland and Forest Ecology Section specializes in applied research on grasslands, aspen parklands, boreal forests, subarctic woodlands, and on natural vegetation in general.

Much of our work is carried out in collaboration with government agencies. However, we also serve livestock producers, forest product companies, oil companies, and the mining industry.

We use our knowledge of Saskatchewan's ecosystems to investigate environmental land problems that involve rangeland and forest management, conservation of biodiversity, and vegetation management.

Our Services:

Depending on your needs, you can use some or all of our capabilities:

  • surveying vegetation, flora, and birds in grasslands and forests

  • assessing rangelands and wildlife habitats

  • developing vegetation management techniques

  • planning for integrated resource management

Benefits:

SRC projects and applied research help ensure the survival, amid sustainable development, of Saskatchewan's vast and diverse natural ecosystems.

For example:

  • Studies of animals grazing in forest and sand dune areas are showing us ways in which wildlife and domestic animals can live together with little ecosystem damage.

  • Resource management plans for parks and conservation areas are protecting the ecological values on which tourism depends while accommodating other uses.

Please contact us and we will be happy to discuss your needs.
