The wheat midge fly has caused significant damage to wheat crops in Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba and British Columbia in recent years. Fortunately, new wheat midge tolerant wheat varieties are becoming available to wheat growers.

By using SRC’s wheat midge testing service, wheat growers can ensure that they have the right blend of midge tolerant wheat to help protect their crops from a virulent wheat midge population.

For more information on midge tolerant wheat, visit the Midge Tolerant Wheat Stewardship Team's website.

Midge Tolerant Wheat Test CSGA Approved

As a result of successful validation testing conducted on the Varietal Blend Refuge Verification for Midge Tolerant Wheat Test, the Canadian Seed Growers Association (CSGA) recognizes that test results from SRC GenServe Laboratories™ are reliable for verifying the percentage refuge frequency in seed samples from midge tolerant wheat seed crops that is required by Additional Certification Requirements for CSGA crop certification.

2010 Crop Year Samples

To ensure growers meet the Canadian Seed Growers’ Association's (CSGA) requirements for crop certification, SRC GenServe Laboratories™ is accepting varietal blend midge samples from October 1, 2010 until June 30, 2011. Samples will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
