ü Media optimization | The Biosafety Level 2 Fermentation Pilot Plant is ideally suited to provide process development and manufacturing services. The pilot plant supports bacterial, mammalian, yeast, and recombinant fermentations from the bench top to 300 L scale.
The 4,300 sq. ft Biosafety Level 2 facility provides rigorously controlled conditions for effective process development and commercial fermentations.
- Fermentation suites comprise eight well-instrumented fermentors ranging in size from 10 L to 300 L total volume. Up to four identical units can be used simultaneously to optimize process parameters and media constituents.
- Fermentors can work in fed-batch mode and oxygen and nitrogen supplementation are available.
- Local computerized control, and on-line monitoring and control of DO, pH, temperature, cell density, airflow, agitation and data is logged and reported using a data acquisition computer program.
- Off-gas from all fermentors can be analyzed by mass spectrometer. Downstream processing includes a variety of centrifuges, micro and ultrafiltration capabilities, cell disruption, and freeze drying.
- Protein purification capabilities for process development and production using the AKTA explorer and Pilot.
Fermentation Development Laboratory
Our fermentation development lab provides research and development support to companies looking for fermentation capacity that does not require a regulated environment. This lab is ideal for developing biofuels, biocontrol agents, and products from fungi and other spore formers. This multi-functional lab is designed to adapt to our clients needs.
