Ian Wahn

Saskatchewan's early settlers survived and prospered because they were innovative, determined, adaptive and practical - attributes that form the foundation of any successful venture today. The Technology-in-Action Fund is a perpetual memorial fund that is based on these attributes.

The fund was established by Ian and Pearl Wahn to honour their parents and grandparents who were pioneers of Saskatchewan. Donations are also accepted from private and public organizations, individuals and families who share the desire to leave a lasting legacy to the people of this province.

The purpose of the fund is to help the people of Saskatchewan develop this province as a highly skilled, fair, desirable and compassionate society with a secure environment. In practical terms, it means working to address the immediate needs of small and medium-sized businesses, farmers, rural communities and natural resource development.

The Technology-in-Action Awards program has two streams:

Youth Awards - Two $5,000 awards will be awarded from SRC's TIA Fund through Saskatchewan Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs (SYPE). SYPE is a group of young and energetic people, working together to promote business and opportunity in Saskatchewan to retain youth and university graduates. They are building a network of dedicated youth who want to stay and prosper in Saskatchewan by starting a business or enhancing their professional skills. Award winners are recognized and given a chance to meet sponsors and potential future employers at the annual SYPE Silver Spades Awards and Gala. Visit www.sype.ca and click on the Events tab for more information.

Entrepreneur Award - The $10,000 New Product Award from SRC's TIA Fund is available through the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce ABEX Awards. It is awarded to the business demonstrating exceptional performance in launching a new Saskatchewan-made product, technology, or service which is original and has good commercial potential.
