SRCTM is working on several projects at various levels of First Nations and Tribal Councils and with the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) in areas ranging from manufacturing to environment to energy.

Below are some examples:

  • SRC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with FSIN in September of 2004. The purpose of the MOU is to establish a cooperative relationship between FSIN and SRC that will encourage the development of projects and actions to improve the lives of First Nations people in Saskatchewan.
  • SRC signed an MOU with the Mistawasis First Nation, resulting in several joint proposal submissions, including assessing the groundwater quality within the First Nation funding accessed by the Indigenous Peoples Health Research Center, submission to the Canadian Institute of Health Research, Assembly of First Nations Environmental Contaminants Initiative and Aboriginal Peoples Health Institute.
  • SRC hired an Aboriginal Business Development Coordinator to assist with increasing SRC's role and awareness amongst Aboriginal communities. He is investigating Technical Development and Applications (TDA) for Aboriginal communities and providing cross-cultural awareness training for SRC staff.
  • SRC is working with the Saskatoon Tribal Council to explore traditional waste practices and the potential impact that they have on groundwater quality. The project is focusing on Mistawasis, Muskeg Lake, Whitecap Dakota and Muskoday First Nations.
  • SRC is working with the Nipawin New Generation Co-op (includes Shoal Lake, Red Earth and Cumberland House First Nations) on the Nipawin Biomass Ethanol project.
  • SRC's Building Performance group and AC Realty Company, based in Spiritwood, received funding from the Communities of Tomorrow (Regina-based funding agency) to use an integrated design concept to build a hybrid home. The resulting homes will be both energy efficient and cost effective - to meet the R2000 standards and the needs of their customer base - First Nations communities.
  • SRC's Environment and Minerals Division is working on a number of ecotourism projects with First Nations across Saskatchewan, including Cowessess, Mistawasis and Flying Dust.
  • SRC's Environment and Minerals Division is working with First Nations to identify wind power potential.
  • SRC's Environmental and Minerals Division is working with Fort a La Corne Development Corporation to identify possible synergies with diamond explorations within Fort a La Corne lands.
  • SRC is assisting the Saskatchewan Indian Equity Foundation Board with feasibility studies of various investments.
  • SRC is working with FSIN to address housing concerns and issues such as energy efficiency and black mold.
  • SRC is working with FSIN to address water concerns and related issues.
