Board of Directors

The SRC Board is comprised of five members whose knowledge and expertise includes science, agriculture, energy, law, finance, audit, management and entrepreneurship. The members represent a cross-section of SRC's stakeholder community including individuals from business, industry, the public sector and academic institutions. Laurier Schramm, Secretary, is the President and CEO of the Saskatchewan Research Council.


Dr. Peta Bonham-Smith, Vice-Chair, is a professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Saskatchewan (U of S) in Saskatoon and is currently acting Vice-Dean, Science in the College of Arts and Science. She specializes in the molecular biology of plants and plant development and is a former Director of the Virtual College of Biotechnology. She is the recipient of a YWCA Women of Distinction Award; the Teaching Excellence Award, Division of Science, U of S; and a USSU Teaching Excellence Award.


Trained as a chemical engineer, John Cross was a founding partner, and later President, CEO, and Chairman, of Philom Bios Inc. Philom Bios, now Novozymes, develops, manufactures, and markets inoculants which enhance fertility efficiency of crops. Philom Bios has been the recipient of several awards, such as one of the "50 Best Managed Companies" in Canada in 2005 and 2006. John has also received numerous awards, including Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Prairie Region, in Science and Technology in 1995, and in the Health Science category in 2004. A former Chair of the Saskatchewan Research Council, he serves as a Board member of the Royal University Hospital Foundation, the POS Pilot Plant Corporation Inc., and is the Board Chair of the Saskatoon & Regional Economic Development Authority.


 

Shelley Lipon, FCA, lives in Regina and is the Executive Regional Director for the Midwest/Northern Region, Canada Health Infoway. Previous positions include CFO, and then CEO, of the Saskatchewan Health Information Network and Principal with the Office of the Saskatchewan Provincial Auditor. Her experience includes senior management, finance, audit, information technology, communication, strategic planning and health information systems.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  


Craig Zawada, Chair, is Managing Director of WMCZ Lawyers-Mediators in Saskatoon.  He has been involved with a broad range of intellectual property issues, including IT, biotech and commercialization of knowledge-based property.  He continues to participate in many professional, business and community organizations on a local and national level.


 
Dr. Dennis Fitzpatrick is Vice-President (Research) at the University of Regina. He is the past Vice-President (Research) of the University of Lethbridge, where he was involved with strategic planning, project development and funding for numerous large institutional research initiatives. His successes include developing the University of Lethbridge’s first industry partnership with the Alberta Terrestrial Imaging Corporation, funding for the Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Water Research, a SSHRC Community University Research Alliance Grant, an NSERC Capacity Development Grant and the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research Polaris Award. Dr. Fitzpatrick has served on the executive for a number of scientific societies and several national boards, and is currently chair of Genome Alberta's Board of Directors.

 
Ronn Lepage is president of VerEco Homes Inc., a company focused on helping Canadians build smart green homes. Prior to that, Ronn was a partner at Deloitte where he worked for over 30 years. Ronn is a Chartered Accountant, a Certified Management Consultant and a LEED Green Associate. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting and Computers. Ronn is studying to complete his Masters of Science in Environmental Strategy. His research is focused on the adoption of green building technologies in residential housing.

 
Jamie McIntyre is a business consultant/advisor. He was formerly vice-president, Environmental Leadership with Cameco Corporation. In his two decades with Cameco, Jamie held various leadership roles, including director-level appointments in Investor Relations, Corporate Relations and Sustainable Development, and manager-level appointments in Human Resources, Training and Aboriginal Relations. His responsibilities in these roles extended to Cameco’s global operations. Jamie has extensive knowledge and leadership experience in human resources, community relations, corporate social responsibility and environmental stewardship. He has served on many boards and working groups at the local, provincial, national and international level.

 
Patricia Cook is the Vice-President of Corporate Affairs for the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA). She joined SIGA in July 2005. She oversees SIGA’s communications, public relations, community relations, stakeholder relations, responsible gaming, corporate planning and policy administration. Previously, she was employed by the Prince Albert Grand Council, including a position as their Director of Operations. Pat is a graduate of The Directors College Chartered Director Program and the University of Regina. She has also earned her Certificate of Aboriginal Leadership, Governance and Management Excellence from the Banff School of Management.
