The Pipe Flow Technology Centre™ is acknowledged as an international leader in its field. Our employees offer an unparalleled degree of experience in assisting industry with practical pipeline applications.
SRC's Pipe Flow Technology Centre™ is fully equipped to enable full-scale physical modeling of the complex pipe flow behaviour of slurries and crude oil mixtures. Actual pipe flow conditions are obtained in a laboratory environment where temperature, flowrate, and mixture composition can be controlled, and instrument performance can be optimized.
SRC Working with Industry
SRC's research and development in pipe flow technology helps resource industries expand the horizons of how and where they operate. We conduct commercial-scale studies of clients' concepts for safe, cost-effective:
Our clients, large and small, understand the power of pipe flow technology to transform the way they do business. Since 1967, SRC's Pipe Flow Technology Centre™ has collaborated with Canada's key industries on a range of ground-breaking pipeline and fluid mechanics applications. A few examples are:
Publications
We have produced numerous confidential reports for clients on topics such as oil sand mixtures, mineral slurries, and heavy crude oil mixtures.
We also produce publicly available research. To view a list of papers produced in the last several years, go here.

Pipeline Hydrotransport with Applications in the Oil Sand Industry
Authors: R.G. Gillies, C.A. Shook, & R.S. Sanders
Pipeline Hydrotransport with Applications in the Oil Sand Industry provides a summary of the principles of fluid mechanics as they apply to pipeline hydrotransport and especially slurry flow. In addition to providing a resource for engineers and scientists working in the oil sand industry, it will be of interest throughout the mineral and chemical process industries. A Course on Slurry Pipeline Design & Operation, October 13 -14, 2010
The Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) offers a comprehensive course in slurry pipeline design and operation. SRC has conducted hundreds of slurry pipeline R&D programs and developed a primarily mechanistic model describing the pipeline flow of settling slurries.
The course focuses on applying the basic principles of slurry pipeline flows to actual design situations, including conventional slurry and thickened slurry systems.
Instruction will be provided by Dr. Sean Sanders of the University of Alberta. Dr. Sanders is the scientific advisor to SRC’s Pipe Flow Technology Centre™.
October 13-14, 2010, at the Quality Hotel & Conference Centre, Fort McMurray, AB
Registration Fee is $1,600 + GST
Registration Deadline is September 27, 2010
