Water Quality Testing
The SRC Environmental Analytical Laboratories perform a wide range of testing of both ground water and surface water to determine if it meets objectives for drinking water, household, livestock or agricultural use.
Various analytical packages along with individual parameters are available to address the water quality objectives for these uses.
The Water Potability Package is used to determine if well water meets the basic requirements specified in Saskatchewan for potability. The parameters tested are nitrates and total coliform bacteria. Results are available within two business days.
The Water Quality Package is used to determine the general water quality and includes a complete mineral analysis along with nitrates, iron and manganese.
All municipalities are required to have their drinking water tested according to the schedule outlined in their water treatment plant operating permit. The requirements include coliform bacteria, general chemical, and chemical health and toxicity. SRC Environmental Analytical Laboratories provides this testing and results are sent electronically to Saskatchewan Environment. The General Chemical Package includes a complete mineral analysis along with nitrates, fluoride and turbidity. The Chemical Health and Toxicity Package contains the group of heavy metals regulated under the Saskatchewan Municipal Drinking Water Guidelines.
The Livestock Package includes tests for salinity (total dissolved solids) and sulphate. These tests determine the suitability of the water for livestock watering. Results are available in two business days.
Other parameters set out in the Saskatchewan and Canadian Water Quality Guidelines can be analyzed, including herbicides, pesticides and radiological.
Wastewater, sewage lagoons and process water can also be tested for a wide range of parameters.
Sampling instructions, containers, preservatives and other supplies including ice packs and coolers will be supplied at no charge.
